Change the x500’s WAN configuration

The x500’s WAN configuration determines how the x500 connects to X4 Remote. Depending on your x500 model, you can configure it to connect via a wiredwireless, or cellular network.

You can also configure multiple connections (max. one of each type) which will then be used as fallback connections when the preferred connection is unavailable. More information can be found here: Configure fallback connections (failover).

Select what applies to you:

  • My x500 is currently offline
  • My x500 is currently online

My x500 is currently offline

If the x500 is offline, you will need to create a configuration file like you did the first time you registered the x500. There is no need to remove the x500’s registration from X4 Remote.

  • Select the desired connection type:
  • Follow the steps in chapter “Create a configuration file“.
  • Follow the steps in chapter “Register your x500“. These steps will not register your x500, as it is already registered, but it wíll apply the configuration file settings to the x500.

You have now made the changes in your x500, but these are not yet visible in X4 Remote. Once the x500 is back online, you can import your changes to X4 Remote.

  • Go to the Fleet Manager app, which is accessible from the Apps menu in the top right corner if you are currently in a different X4 Remote app.
  • Open the main menu , go to Devices, and select the concerning device.
  • Expand the configuration sync options in the top right corner and click [Import config from device].

Connection Details

Wired

Letting the x500 obtain an IP address automatically will be suitable for most situations. If you choose to enter a static IP address instead, be sure to always consult the local IT administrator for the correct network settings (IP addressnetwork maskdefault gateway, and DNS server).

The x500’s WAN IP range (company network, e.g. 192.168.100) needs to be different from its LAN IP range (machine network). More information can be found here.

Wireless

Enter the name (SSID) of the wireless network with the correct capitalization (“guestwifi” is a different network than “GuestWiFi”). If it’s password protected you’ll also need enter the network’s password. If you are unsure about the details, or the requirements mentioned below, please consult the local IT administrator.

The x500 can’t connect to a Wi-Fi network if it requires you to log in to a webpage or accept their terms of use first.
The x500 can only connect to 2.4GHz networks and only if they are on channels 1 – 11.
The x500’s WAN IP range (company network, e.g. 192.168.100) needs to be different from its LAN IP range (machine network). More information can be found here.

The wireless network password is not stored in X4 Remote. Therefore you have to send the changes directly to the x500 by pressing “confirm and push”.

Cellular

Enter the provider’s APN (Access Point Name) and the SIM card’s PIN code. Leave the PIN field empty only if there is no PIN set on the SIM card. If you are unsure about the details, or the requirements mentioned below, please consult the cellular provider.

Make sure the SIM card is activated and has data available.
Insert the mini SIM card (2FF) before you power on the x500.
The 4G models have 2 SMA connectors for your cellular antenna. The one closest to the power connector is the MAIN and the other connector is the DIV. Always connect an antenna to the MAIN. Connecting an antenna to the DIV is optional and never required.

You have now made the changes in X4 Remote, but these are not yet active in your device. You will need to push your changes to your device for them to take effect.

  • Click [Push config to device] in the top right corner.
